Volunteer at Eirtakon
As a college society event, no-one gets paid for dedicating their time and energy into planning and running Eirtakon. Every year Eirtakon gets bigger and better and we couldn’t run it all over the weekend without our tireless volunteers!
If you have never volunteered or staffed at a convention before, don’t worry. You don't necessarily have to be an anime lover, either. Training is provided before the convention to teach you the roles covered over the weekend. Many of our returning volunteers have experience, so you’ll also be able to get lots of help and advice from your peers.
Just because you are spending your time at Eirtakon volunteering doesn't mean you will miss the workshop or event you have your heart set on. If you let us know in advance, we will arrange for you to have time off to go see your favourite event.

What do volunteers do?
You'll find out on the day specifically what you'll be doing, but basically you'll be doing everything. Volunteers are swapped across all available jobs over the weekend so that nobody is stuck with what would otherwise be a boring task for too long. This ensures that you get to work with as many other volunteers as possible, so you should make a bunch of new friends, though as everyone has name badges you don't need to worry about remembering names!An example of the kinds of tasks you will be asked to do include:
- Working desks - taking applications for events/selling wrist bands/selling Eirtakon merchandise.
- Screenings - sitting with a laptop in a screening room watching anime and making sure the DVD doesn't skip.
- Panels - ensuring people stay quiet, acting as a gopher for the speaker if necessary.
- Crowd control - ensuring people form an orderly queue, checking wrist bands.
- Games Room - changing the discs, helping run games tournaments.
What are the perks for volunteering?
In exchange for dedicating your weekend working hard helping the convention run smoothly, you'll gain a lot from the weekend:- As part of the volunteer team, you gain free entry to the convention.

- Complimentary food is provided for all volunteers. Breakfast will be provided in the morning before the convention opens; sandwiches and other snacks will be provided for lunch.

- Post-con meetups will be arranged so you can reunite with your fellow green shirts for fun and banter.
