Cosplay Blind Date 2011 Recap

Remember our Cosplay Blind Date stage show at Eirtakon 2011? The lights, the awkward questions, the strange and wonderful answers, our fantastic host Fiona… I mean, how could you forget?!
With less than three months until Eirtakon 2012, we thought we’d recap on last year’s Cosplay Blind Date and catch up with the winners. Just how did that first date really go?
The lucky winners of Eirtakon 2011’s blind date competition each won a romantic night out at Yamamoris, the finest Japanese restaurant in Dublin. Was it love at first sight, the most awkward 2 hours of their lives, or a night to remember?
We asked our lovers how their dates went, and we even snuck along for a few minutes to take some pics!
Kyle & The Eirtakon Committee
Kyle - who cosplayed Tuxedo Solid Snake - had the pleasure of joining the committee on the Sunday night of Eirtakon for our post-convention food and celebrations, as he had to go home the very next day! Free food and over 30 of the most eligible men and women in Ireland? This man truly got it all!
: “I'll never forget my night out with the committee in Dublin. We went for a lovely meal, then we went to a club and we drunk and danced the night away. The most surprising thing for me was being able to find something of a Japanese restaurant menu that I would actually eat. There was mention of some committee members putting out on the first date, but it never happened, unfortunately. Regardless, it was a lovely night and definitely one to remember.”
: “Never in our wildest dreams did we ever imagine going on a date with THE Kyle Marsh! He’s the perfect gentleman; he even held our hands on the way home. And no, contrary to rumours, we don’t put out on the first date!”
Lyndsey & James
Lyndsey - cosplaying as Seven from Final Fantasy Type-0) - was contestant number 3 and was pleasantly surprised to be picked by the eligible guy for the round, James - who was cosplaying as Luigi. Turns out, James has a bit of a penchant for eating wasabi!
: “Not gonna lie, being picked by Mr. Luigi was a big surprise. However, I do remember seeing my friends shouting and pointing on picking me, number 3. Thanks for that, guys! But yeah, the dinner went rather well considering it took ages to setup because both parties were busy and considering it’s Christmas season. We had lotsa foods and got to hang out with each other. Also James’ wasabi episode was the highlight of the night! Haha, you can’t just eat it ya know! Warned him before and he didn’t listen. Overall, I’m really glad to be part of the 1st successful Cosplay Blind Date (bragging rights, HA!). Many thanks to Eirtakon (especially Fiona) and James for the unforgettable experience!“
: I had a great night out with Lyndsey. Originally I was afraid it might be awkward and we wouldn't have much in common, but from the very start we got on great. I had never been to a Japanese restaurant like Yamamoris before so Lyndsey helped me pick out my food and I learned the hard way that wasabi is not to be taken lightly. I was sad to leave at the end of the night, but it was definitely a meal I won't ever forget.”
Ally - cosplaying as Harry Potter - was originally Kyle's date; but as Kyle had to go home the next day, she went for her date with her friend Melissa instead. Ally didn't have much to say, but what she did say was quite a shock!
“She touched me in very inappropriate places and then spent the rest of the date looking at our waiter’s ass...!!!!!”
