Eirtakon hits 2500!

As we mentioned on Facebook earlier, we said we'd host a couple of giveaways once we hit the milestone of 2,500 likes on our Facebook page. That number was just passed, so read on for the details of these celebratory giveaways!

      Giveaway #1

Missed pre-reg and sad that you missed out on a guarantee Eirtakon t-shirt and faster entry at the weekend? Well, for our first giveaway we'll be giving one pre-reg weekend pass, t-shirt included

To enter this giveaway just comment on this story with your first memory of Eirtakon - whether this was online, at the con itself or anything in-between. One winner will be randomly picked from all valid entries, that winner will be contacted via the e-mail associated with their forum account, so make sure it's active! If the winner is already pre-registered for Eirtakon, they may nominate someone else to receive the free pre-reg pass. The winning pass will include an Eirtakon t-shirt, provided the t-shirt is not from a size we have only a small supply of.

You do have to register on the forums before you can comment, but that's made easier by the handy Facebook Connect feature which can register you in just two clicks! And after you enter, stick around the forums and have a chat!

This giveaway will close at 7pm on November 1st.

      Giveaway #2

Have you seen those lovely Eirtakon hoodies floating around recently? Now's your chance to win one of your own! The winner will receive one Eirtakon hoodie, normal or zippie, any size from S to XXL.

We're making you do some more work for this one - to enter, you need to take a picture of yourself wearing an Eirtakon t-shirt from any year in some interesting location. The picture should be posted in a comment on this story. The best location, as determined by the committee, will win the hoodie that the winner can either pick up at Eirtakon this year, or be mailed out to them. The winner will be contacted via the e-mail associated with their forum account, so make sure it's active!

This giveaway will close at 7pm on November 8th.

I moved recently to Ireland, and one of the first things I did was checked for Japan culture events in Dublin.
I was so happy when I found out the existence of this organization holding such a nice event! ^^

First memory. That's tough one. I've never been to eirta so haven't got a memory of being there but I've gotta say talking to Glenn, Rose and Roisin on the Eirtakon group on facebook is one of the best memories i'd have. They are so friendly. I laughed so much each time I so have to get up to eirta to meet everyone. Glenn is hilarious, so hope ya guys get him in a pikachu suit for this year. That would make me laugh my socks off since i suggested the idea.

My first memory of Eirtakon was back from 2008. It was my first con on the entire cosplay scene. I was cosplaying Squall. I will never forget the battle between Final fantasy 7 and 8 characters in the small grass area. And I also could never forget that historic Final Fantasy 8 Waltz I had with a lady who would later become a girlfriend for almost 2 years. Such good times! You just cant predict what is going to happen at these cons!

My first memory of Eirtakon was finding the facebook page and straight away telling my friend that we have to go to it! Now we are counting down the days until we get to experience what looks like is going to be an awesome con!!

My first memory is from Eirtakon Mark II c:
It was my first ever experience of a convention and of so many people who were into anime/manga. I bought my first plushie ever and a heap of anime posters that I plastered all over my room xD
I have to say, despite my disastrous cosplay attempt, it was one of the most memorable weekends of my life and solidified my status as a cosplayer. I've been to 4 Eirtakons since then and I plan to go to many more

My first memory is from Eirtakon 2010, my first convention ever. :') My first memory is of the huge queue full of people in cosplay or just generally admiring others in cosplay. It was the first time I'd ever seen people do that. Then, once I'd gotten inside, I found an L cosplayer with a Death Note, which he was getting people to sign. I signed it and then wondered if that would be considered suicide, I said as such to the and we had a huge conversation discussing the merits of that comment. I loved it, the first time I'd ever talked to someone who actually had an interest in anime, and didn't think that they were just 'stupid Japanese cartoons' or full of Hentai.
Since then I've also been to 2011, and plan to go to many many more, Eirtakon is awesome!!

Eirtakon was my first convection ever... never been to ones before Eirtakon, i was suprised at the fact that there were so many other people that had the same interest as me and that they felt the same way about them. Eirtakon was really a great way to meet people and also learn more about anime and mangas. It also gave me the feeling that i don't need to be quiet and calm but can go crazy about animes and mangas my first memory of Eirtakon was great because i was also able to experience some of asia's culture without actually going there
        love Eirtakon!!!! ♥

The first time I went to Eirtakon I went as Zero back in 2007 if I recall. Really really nervous as it was the first time I've ever done such a thing.

Anywho the first real memory was getting a group of Code Geass cosplayers together for a photoshoot, man was it awesome! Have the photos still here as a reminder of how awesome Eirtakon can be. I've been every year since.

In early October 2010, a friend and I decided to step in our ancestor’s footprints and launch and expedition across the pond. With our goal to raid the Irish convention, Eirtakon. We managed to get tickets ordered in time and set sail knowing nothing about the whereabouts, the people or even the con. But boy, was it worth it. The con events were grand, the local brew was dark and tasty, and the locals were nothing but the friendliest of men, and the loveliest of women. We went on a whim, and returned with tales of glory and adventure from the Emerald Island in the West.

This year will be our third time on Irish soil, and our bodies are ready. We will even be bringing new meat along. Though I haven’t got my hands on a ticket in time, and the embarrassment of arriving at the con without possibility to get inside, would only be topped by getting home without this year’s T-shirt.
So this opportunity is a godsend.

My first memory, I guess when I walked into DCU and thought. 'I've found my home', literally because I live down the road! I felt so happy! Nobody to say that they don't know what I'm talking about, nobody to leave me out. I love Eirtakon and all the people in it!

My earliest Eirtakon memory was being shoved into a photobooth with four other people by a camerawoman, and then having someone else run over and shout "ME TOO!" before he squeezed his way into this tiny, already very crowded, space. I just wish I could have see those photos.

My first memory of Eirtakon was when I was told about the con literally a week before it was on, having to rush around and sort out a cosplay (it was my first cosplay too so I had absolutely no idea what I was doing) and having to scrape up enough money to be able to get my weekend ticket. Eirtakon 2011 was my first ever con and I'm so soo glad it had been because everyone there was so nice, the staff were lovely and really helpful & the events at the con were amazing! It was well worth having to spend two hours driving around searching for the place and asking random strangers on the street for directions to DCU, not to mention all of the looks of confusion we got our way :L ^u^

I first attended Eirtakon back in 2008.
T'was the first anime convention I've ever been to and my first time cosplaying.
I was such a noob... BUT GOD DAMMIT, IT WAS AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE NONETHELESS!
        -punches the air-

Also.. the only reason why my YouTube channel has so many views and subscribers is because of the Eirtakon videos I've uploaded over the years. I was then messaged on YouTube by these random people, telling me they were from the same county and that they love watching anime and cosplaying too. They wanted me to tell them all about Eirtakon, explaining what happens there because they were dying to go some day. So.. we met up eventually and formed our own cosplay group. These "random people" are now my best friends and have been for 5 years. I guess I should say thanks... THANK YOUUU~ ◕‿◕
