Um, I have a good enough idea of how to style a wig, but my problem is getting one...
Can anyone tell me where they buy their wigs (in Dublin)? Right now, i need a long silver one and maybe a short-ish pink one...

The joke shop beisde The Gaiety has probably the best selection of coloured wigs in dublin.

your best bet is to buy them online!

the shop beside the gaiety is good but doesn't always stock a lot of different colours/lengths to suit what you need.

ebay is a good bet (just logged on to my ebay to give you the link for the shop i bought my wig from for this year's eirtakon. turns out they're only selling hair extensions now >.<) if you search for the type of wig you want.

i'm sure butterscotch on here has loads of good sites to recommend also!

You called.

Hybridchild is right about the the joke shop beside the Gaiety theatre, it does have a good selection and they are reasonably priced. There is another wig shop on Talbot street beside the Singer sewing machine shop. I went in there last year to try look for a long green wig for C.C. and the sales assistant looked at me like I had two heads. :???:

tread_sofly is right about buying online would be your best bet as unfortunately there are very few good costume shops in Dublin. The majority of wig shops in Dublin are real hair and are not suited for costumes. Ebay is good but just be careful as the image of the wig might look different to what it is. I would always read the reviews before buying. I say cosplaymagic.com is good and cosworx from cosplay.com is good too but I am not sure if they ship outside America. I will post useful links for buying wigs in the Tips for the Cosplayer thread.

I wouldn't mind getting a few wigs; what online stores do you use? Also I have quite a lot of curly long red hair. The one time I used a wig I tried pinning it up but I don't like using hairpins. Where do you get wig caps and how do you keep the wig stuck to them? Do some wigs have wig caps with them?

Last time I checked, cosworx didn't ship to Ireland, but that was about a year ago and they might now. I generally use eBay for wigs, just making sure the feedback is over 99% and I some times read the feedback just to make sure no one had any complaints. I choose those sometimes expensive Kanekelon (sp?) wigs just cause they look so pretty.

As for styling, I suck at that so I'd be no help. Brushing, bobby pins or maybe a little hairspray is the most I do to my wigs.

Oh I sure hope they do as there is the one wig I need/want on that site and it is perfect for one of my cosplays. I think they do when I put it in my cart Ireland was in the list of countries. I haven't bought it yet, I was just seeing would it ship to Ireland.

I say the majority style their wig using hairspray and a scissors. :) If you type in wig styling in youtube you should get plenty of videos on styling wigs and on sharpening (dye) them.

That's right, ebay is the best option I'd say - my silvery white very long one I got from there - high quality, only US$ 32

All cosplay wigs come from China, it doesent matter where u buy them lol so I think it's much easier (and cheaper!) to purchase from a chinese shop
The seller I got my one from is Comic-wig, here's the link:

nice one, good comunication...I wouldnt say fast shippin coz it took me a couple of months, but I live in Brazil after all ¬¬ ppl use to say it takes only a few weeks to get to UK & Ireland

That's where I got my Dead or Alive Ayane one!! I couldn't find their page on ebay, since I bought mine, they've redone their page.

The wig I got was BRILLIANT, and payment good value, but again, postage was well slow.

It was also shipped a good few days after I paid.

I got it just 3 days or so before the convention. I was delighted with it, but from now on, I'll order well in advance.

Wow, I can't remember exactly, nearly two months I think!

As far as I know, if a wig is made from synthetic fibres (and most affordable ones are) they can't be dyed.

But you can use coloured spray paint on them!

WOW! ag magadh?! and I thought a shipment to Brazil would take longer than Ireland lol

aye I've heard about that...mine is synthetic (coz nobody has white hair to sell I suppose lol) I've also heard from São Paulo cosplayers it's possible to slightly dye them with fabric dye, but I've no idea if that actually works :P

hmmmm, I guess you could try, but I'd try it on a wig you don't mind destroying first! Or at least on a strand of hair on the underneath of the wig that you can't really see!!

Online is the best bet for buying cosplay wigs, but only if the wigs are hard to find in wig shops, I know I know, the pure obviousness. But better tell early, aight?

There is one wig shop in Moore St (where the markets are, it's close to iLac centre) and they're selling wigs thats appropriate enough for cosplay, from 20EUR to 39EUR.

I can list few shops that sells wigs:
Wigwam (St. Stephens Green SC)
Showco & Accessories (South Georges St Arcade[Market])
Fun Palace (Grafton St)
Not To Worry (Talbot St)

Recently I bought a medium-length slivery-white wig from southpanda-8 on eBay, and I have to say I recommend to anyone buy wigs from that eBay seller--- the seller is friendly, approachable and on time over shipping the goods.

After my horrible experience with their posting last time, I decided to bite the bullet and get another wig from them.

The reason being, first of all, I found the perfect wig in their store after searching everywhere for it!! Secondly, my Ayane wig was brilliant quality and a great price. The shipping time was a bit ridiculous though.

However, this time the wig arrived about 1 and half - 2 weeks after I paid for it, so I was delighted.

It's a beauty as well but since I'm away and got it posted back to Ireland, I haven't had a chance to try it on, so I hope it looks good!

Think I got a pretty good match! The fringe will have to be trimmed a bit, but otherwise it should do.

That's gorgeous!

Just a tip, if you want the whole 'hair sticking up' thing she has going, put a very small elastic band on a small section in the dead centre before you cut the bangs. It should give you that small lift. :awesome:

EDIT: I wonder if this would help??

It's gorgeous and really long, but I just don't want it to get ruined with tangles and knots >.< Really happy with how perfect it suits the character though, I was really lucky to find it.

If you don't want tangles in the wig, put a few hair ties in it to keep it in place. I do this with all my long with and it keeps them pretty neat.

And very nice Fiona, it actually looks like the same cut as my Yuri Sakazaki wig but longer.

Oh then i have a little tip for you, my cousin showed me it in the hairdresses when she cut the fringe of my wig if its good quality then this should work and if its heat resistant.

Damp about half way up from the long tips and using abit of volume mouse and some hair spray, spray and use like a dollop and one sprits then dry with a hair dryer on cold settings and just bring a wig brush through it.

That will stop it from staticy on you and should help come towards the con.

It's not as difficult a cosplay as my last two so I'm not stressed!
