View Full Version : Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: how much awesome can it actually provide?

I haven't read the scott pilgrim series yet but i hope to. So i ask you who probably have, from the trailers how close is Edgar Wright's representation and how good are you expecting it to be?

I first saw the trailer during the previews of Kick Ass, and I was blown away. D: It looks like the ultimate geek movie. I'm not so sure about Michael Cera being cast for the lead though, I'm not a fan of his work.

Looks almost exactly like the comics. Few little changes but I think that's ok. I expect it to be fucking amazing.

George Michael is a legend, and I won't hear a word said against him.

I don't know whether to like it or not. From the wikipedia discription is seems like it's trying too hard, and the art style of the comic had this obnoxious thing going on with the eyes which unfortunately leaves a bad impression on me.

The video game looks cool though, the style works much better like that IMO.

Who said anything about George Michael?

Like Catfish I also did not like the artwork in Scott Pilgrim all the much . I usually take issue when a western comic attempts to resemble an eastern one or when an eastern comic tries to look like western one.
Based on that aesthetically the film will please me anyway. I also felt while reading the comic (up to date) that while I was mildly amused ever so often I though that the comedy was something that would work better on screen.
I think it was mentioned the film would have an alternate ending to the comics
to use the expression to long didn't read:

The comic was a comedy that just wasn't all that funny to me and mostly gave me the feeling I was reading a harem series.

George Michael Bluth. Michael Cera can play no other role.

But from what i knew of the plot, i thought micheal cera would be perfect. Who would you suggest instead?

Those damn books are amazing!!
As for art styles, I'm pretty sure a comic is a comic.
Eastern or Western means nothing to me, it just has to be good.

This movie just keeps getting better: http://kotaku.com/5569118/scott-pilgrim-movie-includes-zelda-tunes-beck-as-sex-bob+omb

Also Micheal Cera can really only play one type of character really, poor guy is type casted.

Chronicrick
21st Jun 2010, 22:18
well, would you enjoy him playing a serial killer or the next indiana jones?
the guy knows his limits and he does it well, i dont see why its a problem.

well that came out a little angrey and impassioned now that i read over it. I swear it didn't seem like that when i thought of it or typed it, I really don't care as much about micheal cera's acting career as the above statement would lead you to beleive.

Technically Scott Pilgrim isn't so much an awkward teen as he is....an idiot.

Micheal Cera has certainly not played anyone that retarded yet, so this is really a new character for him.

Having read the books, I approve of this adaptation! Also... A scene left out of the movie is too be animated! WIN

Scott Pilgrim animated series.... I like that idea better actually

Maybe you should try reading a chapter or two instead of judging it by the wikipedia page.

Tbh, I'd never heard of this before, but the fact that Jason Schwartzman is it in sealed the deal for me.

It's pretty good - if you liked Tenenbaums or the Life Acquatic, you'll enjoy this too. Wes Anderson has only ever made one film; he just keeps on making it (and it stays good!)

Rushmore was the first Wes Anderson movie I ever watched and my favourite of his.

Only backtracked to Bottle Rocket after watching the rest of his stuff o.0

My attempts to track down the Zissou Adidas runner were fruitless too :frown:

Not that I actually care, but a friend of mine who is big into the series got a peak at the movie and was highly pleased with the result. Looking good for all you fans

Apart from the lack of a few pounds this is accurate down to what I'm currently wearing and the badly needing a shave/tired look.

I was unable to enjoy it fully for...various reasons...but damn! This bitch translated to screen AMAZINGLY well.

I like that, for the extra life, he had to repeat the ENTIRE level again. That was quite unexpected after the last book.

Saw it earlier on. The references gave me multiple nerdgasms. It was very heavy on the Zelda, and the fact I was wearing a Zelda T-shirt while watching made it all the more enjoyable.

Just back from seeing it. Yes I enjoyed it (though I've never played Zelda, so I'm sure i'm not as fanboy pleased as some of you are), totaly not a film for older people though.
EDIT:
Just thinking about it, am I to take it that the lesson to be learnt from the film is. Find a girl you like, stalk her until she agrees to go out with you, then deal with her baggage.

The complete opposite to Twilight.

Then the girl has to deal with the guys baggage after he stalks her.

I think what we can always take away from films is that if someone doesn't like you just keep stalking them. They'll break down eventually.

Watched this with my mum(maybe not the best audience).

Was great.

Was pretty hipster like I expected but it played with it and did it in a fun way. First 20-30 minutes or so were way too awkward though, could have been done a lot better. Only picked up at the first fight, and even that was kinda awkward. Was awesome after that. BASS BATTLE was a highlight for sure.

Played the demo of the game, like the movie awkward starting out but I started to get used to it. Cool soundtrack. May purchase.

You better have some friends to play with or be prepared to grind because that game is as hard as they come.
