Despite alot of my criticisms of the faults of anime/manga at times this guy created some genuinely quality films that a well deserving of being called more than just "Cartoons from Japan" or "anime" , I know it comes off as fanboyism but I think Kon's movies are up there with other famous works of cinema.

Posts on anime news network seem to suggest he died of cancer , at 47 too.
He surprisingly young.

I just read that myself. Such a shame, while I didn't like all his work some of it was amazing and all of it was unique and original which is very rare in anime these days.

He will be missed.

After taking a look at the list of stuff he has done. Damn. . . Such a loss.

That is terrible. I only ever saw two of his works and really liked his stuff. He was surreal and unique. It is sad that he died at a young age and unexpected.

He was my favourite (Animation) director! The only director I own all the works of. Including Memories.

I hope his last film is at least finished...

Its a real shame, that he passed away so early.

At least, he wont be forgotten with all he achieved so far.

Ah balls. All of his movies that I have seen were good. He's a real loss to anime - there are so few competent anime directors left. ..

If anyone is reading this, and is wondering who he was, they should all go and watch Paranoia Agent.

If anyone is reading this, and is wondering who he was, they should all go watch everything he produced in his professional career.

While not about Kon , here is is another similar story.
I felt that making a new topic would have be sort of pointless really.
I enjoyed what I saw of Lupin and loved the Ghibli films Yamauchi worked on. The other series/movies associated with him I'm not too familiar with.

Possible death of Ghibli?

Hopefully this will never happen.
This is a sad sad week for anime/manga fans.

Thats been coming for awhile. Their main problem isn't actually financial its recruitment.

Becasue they still use animation techniques that haven't been mainstream since the early 90's there's very few talented animators that they can use as most of the people have moved onto digital techniques. This makes making films extremely slow and has been the casue of films like Ocean Waves and Earthsea which where intented to train new talent.

They could easily survive if they changed the way they do things but if that happened along with the pending retirement of Takahata and the with Mizayaki unlikely to be around much longer it would only be Ghibli in name only anyway.

Relevant cause he was an animator and Japanese. You know though I would hate to see it occur , I wouldn't be surprised if Oisihi and Kamiyama died by the weekend.
