I want to thank those who contributed to this thread.
I will talk with the other admins and we will get back to you on this feature request. I shall be back shortly with an answer.
By my count, about half the posts in this thread are 'For', and half 'Against'. Thus, I tagged it 'No Consensus'.
As Mr.Pepper has pointed out, we Mods and the Admins shall discuss this in private. We'll read any additional calls for support / solid arguments on either side.
Half is better than one or none.
For me, it's a fairly useful feature. As said before, it's great for providing feedback on images and funny quotes posted without having to do the dreaded:
"lol
padpadpad"
But it's also going to be handy in the debate threads. Though I read these threads, I never post in them because my point has either been covered solidily by another member or I'm conscious that my punny post will be overshadowed by tge more wordy 'more thought out' inputs. Therefore, I don't post in those sort of threads as you've noticed.
The thumbs up feature will allow me and those interested to show our support for certain posts and get our own view across with spamming the board with 'This' posts.
The thumbs up feature isn't going to discourage people from posting. I doubt you'd be able to shut up anyone here![]()
But it's going to allow people to put in their own thoughts in threads that they wouldn't normally post in and show their support in a post without another mindless comment. It will also give the lurkers and the shy, quiet ones a voice. There's nothing more intimidating than a forum packed with established members who are already familiar with eachother (believe me, I know) so the feature may be able to ease them in with interacting with the other members.
But basically if this feature is put in place and you don't like it, don't use it.
I agree with kitty although the admins/mods dont want it so I can guess where it will head
I like the function on boards, so wouldn't mind it implemented here
Hey Hammy i'm not sure where you got that impression but we have a lot to consider when adding a feature that requires changing the site and how it affects updates and security, let alone the feature and the need for it.
But don't be so negative and we'll be back with our decision soon :icon_e_biggrin:

Hi folks!
Since so many of you generally seem to want this frature implimented, we're going to look into getting it installed over the next few weeks. As Kitto-Cato said, if you don't like it don't use itWe'll have to do various tests and so on before it goes live, but we'll keep you all up to date on how things are going as it progresses.
*takes of PR hat*
