    Actually, we switched to vBulletin partly to escape the hordes of bots that we were getting on phpbb

    Computers are getting better than me at reading captcha's, so it doesn't surprise me.

    Easier Turing test would be something that requires comprehension of the image/test... since that takes a hell of a lot more processing power/coding than a spammer might want to spare. At the same time, it's often easier for the human.

    A phpBB2 site I used to go to had the simple one where on registration, it asked you to click a link that opened a new tab for the site rules, then asked the user to copy a specific line of text.

    It was easy to do, and proved pretty much infallible from the time it was implemented, until the time the site died.

    Thanks for the ideas Dartz.
    We are always reviewing the security of the site and spam bots are always top of the list.
    Rest assured guys that we will implement good anti-spam bot measures as we can.

    Thanks.

    That's a brilliant idea actually. I am currently of the opinion that it is easier for bots to read most of the current image captchas than it is for me

    phpBB is also terrible though.... I didn't know it was bad for bots, but it just doesn't look nice. vBulletin I knew was bad for bots, and I'm an IPB (Invision Power Board) fangirl. It wins all! xD

    life is infinitely stranger than anything which the mind of man could invent.

    I remember when IPB was a free program released just after those guys left Ikonboard. Maaaan, that software was years ahead of its time ;_;
