July 25th 2007, Dublin Ireland: Eirtakon, the Republic of Ireland's premier anime event, has announced details of the cosplay competitions set to take place during the weekend-long celebration of eveything Japanese.
This year for Eirtakon 07 MK II expect lots of exciting cosplay competitions! Along with the traditional masquerade ball you can expect competitions such as roleplay skits, themed competitions and individual roleplay performances.
There will also be tons of brilliant, anime-filled awards for entrants and the categories will include best costume, best prop and best armoured costume.
Competitions won't be the only cosplay events taking place at Eirtakon 07 MK II – visitors will also be able to experience a unique maid and butler café, where they can enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and a slice of cake, served to them by their favourite anime characters! The café will be found at both ends of the second floor in the main convention venue, where anime fans can chill and chat to other attendees while being looked after by the lovely maids and charming butlers of Eirtakon, just like the real thing in Tokyo!
Also for Japanese fashion and lolita fans there will be a Japanese fashion show with the hottest clothing styles such as J-rock, Harajuku, Fruits and Lolita fashion! We are currently in negotiations with a number of clothing traders to find a sponsor for the fashion show, expect an announcement on this soon.
Lolita fans will not only have the fashion show to look forward to – there will be a lolita picnic, where lolitas can sit on the picnic blanket on the green outside the venue, taking in what will hopefully be a fine autumn afternoon! There will also be photo shoots and again expect an announcement soon giving further details.
Finally, we will be holding panels and workshops on various aspects of cosplay and Japanese fashion throughout the weekend. The panels will be chaired by some of the foremost experts on Japanese fashion. Attendees will learn tricks of the trade, how to wear certain outfits and when, where to source the best materials and much, much more. Expect confirmation of the speakers closer to the event in November.
About Eirtakon
Eirtakon is the Republic of Ireland's number one anime event and is currently in its third year. Following on from the unexpected success of the first Eirtakon, held in November 2005, the second event was held in February 2007 and was similarly successful, receiving widespread praise and acclaim throughout anime circles in Ireland and abroad.
Eirtakon 07 MK II looks to be the biggest yet with more showings, more guest speakers, more surprise events and more traders. It will again take place in The Hub in Dublin City University, one of the most up-to-date event facilities in Ireland, and will be happening on the weekend of November 23rd-25th.
Further announcements as to pricing and the anime showing schedule are expected in the coming weeks.
