December 10th, 2007, Dublin Ireland: Eirtakon, Ireland's premier anime event, has confirmed the working committee for Eirtakon 08.
The working committee will be in place until April 2008, when the full committee for Eirtakon 08 will be appointed. Until then this committee, comprised entirely of members of the Eirtakon 07 MK II board, will be working to set the foundations for next year's convention.
Last year's Anime Coordinator, Ross Duggan, has moved into the role of Industry Liaison, with longtime AMS member Mark Mulligan taking over the running of the anime screenings. Last year's Staff Manager Stephen Fox has taken on the job of Co-Director. With the defining of these roles, the committee is looking to further expand upon the success of Eirtakon 07 MK II and bring anime to an even wider audience in Ireland.
The working committee has already begun preparations for Eirtakon 08 and only last week confirmed the announcement made at the closing ceremony to Eirtakon 07 MK II; that Vic Mignogna, the voice behind Full Metal Alchemist's main protagonist Edward Elric, will be the star guest next November.
Eirtakon 07 MK II proved to be the most successful anime convention Ireland has ever seen, with over 400 attendees over the course of the three days. People from all over Ireland and abroad came to Dublin to take part in cosplay events, games tournaments and art competitions. Over 50 people took part in the cosplay competitions and in total over 80 people dressed up as their favourite anime and manga characters, adding a unique and celebratory atmosphere to The Hub, Dublin City University’s premiere event facility.
Throughout the weekend attendees were spoilt for choice. On top of screenings running from opening until closing (AMV Hell proving to be particularly popular), a dedicated PS2 was set up just for Para Para Paradise, numerous discussion panels were held, dozens of random spot prizes were given out by committee members, a hugely popular maid & butler cafe was open on Saturday and Sunday, cosplay and Japanese fashion showcases drew huge crowds and a manga library area, where people could chill and read some of DCU's Anime & Manga Society's books, was in constant use.
The full working committee for Eirtakon 08 is as follows:
Director: Keith O'Sullivan
Co-Director: Stephen Fox
Treasurer: Aoife Cunneen
PR Team: Mark Murphy & Matt Gaffney
Cosplay Coordinator: Amy King
Trade Coordinator: Nathan Smithson
Industry Liaison: Ross Duggan
Anime Coordinator: Mark Mulligan
