AMV Competition Details Announced
Eirtakon 08 is pleased to announce our first annual Anime Music Video (AMV) Competition! The competition will run as part of Eirtakon 08, to be held in The Hub in Dublin City University on the weekend of November 14th-16th.
AMVs are a popular form of fan work that involves taking scenes from anime and editing them together and setting them to music, providing the perfect setting for anime fans to show how in tune they are with their favourite shows!
The competition this year will include three categories - Action, Comedy and Character Piece, which covers videos devoted to one character as well as semimetal and romantic themed videos.
To enter, all participants will have prepare their video and submit it before the convention. The five finalists for each category will be contacted in the weeks before Eirtkaon 08 and their videos will be shown at DCU on Sunday, before the winners are announced at the closing ceremony. To enter you have to upload the video to some web space, a free hosting site or a video streaming site that allows downloads without registration. And please, no YouTube links! Your videos will be judged on video and sound quality, so we need to see your AMV in all its glorious high quality original form!
The full list of criteria on which the videos will be judged are:
* Video and sound quality
* Originality
* Entertainment value
* Editing
* Effort
* Sync to music
The entry must also conform to these rules and standards:
* The file must be smaller than 100mb
* The video must be under 5 minutes
* It must be original work
* No graphic sexual content
* All content must be animated, hand drawn, cell, CG etc.
* Video game cut scenes are allowed as long as they are anime themed or styled
* The following file types are allowed: avi, divx, wmv, mpg, mkv or mp4
* The following codecs are recommended: Xvid, Divx, H264 or WMV9
* Only one entry per category, you may enter as many categories as you like.
* Entries must be submitted by October 31st 2008
To enter please submit the following information:
* Your real name
* Your age
* Which category you wish to enter
* The title or the anime or animes used
* The titles and artist of the music used
* A link to the file
You can submit your entry either by posting on the AMV compitition thread in the official Eirtakon forums (http://forums.eirtaku.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=2670) or by emailing stephen[at]eirtakon[dot]com. If you need somewhere to host your video we recommend Megaupload.com or Animemusicvideos.org!

Eirtakon, currently in its fourth year, is Ireland’s number one anime event and one of the biggest conventions of its kind in the country. Following on from the massive success of Eirtakon 07 MK II, Eirtakon 08 will be bigger and better again.
