Ukraine began the new year under a heavy shadow as it endured a massive overnight drone assault from Russia, targeting multiple regions, including the capital, Kyiv. “These Inhumans decided to give us a hot start to the year and, like real weaklings and cowards, continued to hit civilians,” Stefanchuk shared on social media. He extended wishes for a swift recovery to those injured.
In Kyiv, air raid sirens rang out before sunrise, urging residents to seek shelter. The central Pecherskyi neighborhood bore the brunt of the assault, with a strike setting fire to an apartment building, injuring several people, and causing extensive damage. Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed that two individuals were hospitalized while two others received treatment at the scene. Among the injured was a pregnant woman, underscoring the indiscriminate nature of the attack. Falling debris shattered windows, damaged trams, and ignited a garage fire in the western Sviatoshynskyi neighborhood.
